1/12/02 MR.PLOW
at CARDI'Swith ALE, and GRINGO STARR. "Larry 5thPlow's Farewell Show" It was off to the southwest side to see the men of Mr. Plow at that venerable heavy metal establishment... Cardi's. It's was the big stage, strobe lights, disco balls, tons of stage lights, loud soundmen, nuclear powered p.a's, and of course a fog machine- so Plow was right at home. GRINGO STARR kicked off the evening with good stuff that everybody seemed to like. Great riffs and grooves to go along with the mandatory heaviness. I'd like see these guys again. Besides they got one of the best names around! Next it was ALE... who made the audience succumb with their powerful sound. It was hard and angry. Lots of angst from these chaps. Finally at one o'clock in the morn, MR.PLOW found their way to the stage and kicked off the set with a tribute- 'Louder than Larry'. Larry came up early for some dancing. While the locals loved the guitar work by the boys. And everybody was wondering who the new bass player was.... oh it was Greg after all, minus his rock-n-roll credibility(i.e. hair) but not his standard drop knee rocking. 'Right On' was perfect. And a new song 'The Dude' was instantly on everybody's favorite list. Then Larry requested 'From the Mouth of Gandalf' which gave everybody a bathroom break- props to Dave on the drum solo- not enough bands do that! Afterwards it was time for goodbyes to Larry with everyone's new fave 'Molly' and an encore presentation of 'Electric'- and Larry cranked up the energy one last time! It was a great evening of rock... see ya soon Larry. On the way home in the car as our ears were ringing we mused... it's not Death Metal, so much as it's Deaf Metal. We couldn't even hear the music on the car radio. |
